Show off your collection

Let's talk whiskey.

Old Dublin is no longer available in larger bottles but can still be bought in half or quarter bottles.
Have been told that it is a mix of Bushmills and Jameson, a possible reason for it's departure of the shelves
since Pernod Recard sold Bushmills to Diagio. An "inoffencive" whiskey as a friend has put it.
Tasted a whiskey while in Dublin last week called "The Dubliner", this tasted of Cadbury Chrunchie......different.
Just don't get the 2 confused. :D

Old Dublin which I think is now no more ... was cheap blend created by IDL circa Mid 90's to Mid 2000's. However I could be corrected on that.

Possibly still available in old stock in obscure shops.

"Possibly" created to try and be a competitor to the influx of cheap Cooley private and supermarket blends.

There has been a few versions of it ... basically style changes. Originally in a Dimple(esque) stlye bottle but 2 dimples (Front and rear) rather than 3 as of Dimple.

(Edit: Tallu B beat me to it and sounds like a good explanation  )

The redbreast's from the 80's are not anyway near what they should have been. IDL had decided in 1970 to stop selling casks to merchants and Gilbey's recieved their last casks in 1971 when the Jameson Distillery in Dublin Closed. Gilbeys exhaused their stock in 1985 and that was the end of Redbreast under Gilbeys. These were basically created using some of the last unused casks that Gilbey's had in stock. Even though some much older whiskey has gone into these 12yo bottling's alot of them were tired casks that were gone past their best hence the under whelming bottles that came out at that time. It coul of died a death there and then but luckily IDL aquired the brand and relaunched it in the early 90's.

IrishWhiskeyChaser wrote:The Jameson Collection "Cooperage & HORSE" were special limited edition releases of regular Jameson for the Dutch & German markets but in 1 litre bottles. Possibly issued on 2 separate years as a sequence in the mid 90's which did not go any further. I have long got rid of my 2 so cannot check for L codes but no major value on those.

Jameson Marconi is a fairly straight forward limited edition to commemorate 100 years of radio 1895 - 1995 I think so stands to reason it was released in 1995. I've forgotten if it was the precursor of the Gold with the Virgin oak bit but would not be surprised if it was. Getting more and more rare as the years go by value probably circa €100-120Euro

A year later but here those L codes i think.

Marconi 61583041 & 61593042
Cooperage 52511277
Distillery Horse 52501274

What would you value them at today?
I'd go 80, 100 and 120 respectively,
I bought my first Jameson Gold in 1997 to my knowledge.

Jameson Marconi was the precursor to Jameson Gold. Stunning stuff. I brought many bottles of these to colleagues in Ericsson in Sweden in the late '90s - possibly some still abandoned under a few desks in Linkoping and Stockholm ('though I doubt it).

I was back and forth to Germany in 97 & 98 quite allot and consumed more than my fair share of them.
Lucky I still have an old bottling which was stunning compared to the current one I think. I'd go so far as to say it is the nicest of all recent Jameson labels.

Has anyone ever compared the Marconi and Gold?

I have, but the Gold has changed a but. I think the Marconi was.very nice. IDL did not think they got it quite right and saw the Gold as an improvement. I think I prefer the Gold.

I'd probably go with John on this one. Had a bottle of Marconi and the old Jameson Gold open side by side and I too preferred the Gold.

However the Marconi was nice too.

It really is all a matter of preference and taste.

May be an idea to taste hte Old and New Golds side by side to see what the differences are today, if any.

I always liked the Gold.
I read a comment that the Marconi was just a treaked 12 year old recently on the forum but though it was a precursor to the Gold. I've only ever tried the gold but may crack open a Marconi some day.

Does anyone know how many bottles of the Marconi, Distillery horse and Cooperage were available?

Anyone use whiskybase.com?

I have started using it, but have to register a lot of bottles not on their database, so I'm not fully up to date on my collection.

I seen it before but hadn't used it.

I logged in and noticed that I'd have to add bottles to the database too. I've noticed they have few photos of Irish Whiskeys.

It's an interesting site all the same.

Sorry meant to reply to this ...

Yes I'm up on it but left it go for a while as I too had a lot of my bottles missing and to be quite honest could not be bother updating the database myself. Went back there and found much more added but still is missing a lot. Now you can say whether your bottle is open or not.
