Midleton Press Event

Postby JohnM » Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:43 pm

From www.whatdoesjohnknow.com

...t there’s a big press event going on at the Midleton distillery in Ireland in a couple weeks. A little while back I was informed that Pernod has repackaged Redbreast and Green Spot single pot still whiskeys... Rumor has it that they will also be introducing a new line of single pot still whiskeys at this press event. M

The Irish Whiskey Society has received a formal invitation to this event.
The Society will be represented by the President & Vice President.

I'm sure there will be plenty of first hand accounts and pictures of this event.

Will keep everyone posted.

Perhaps the re-emergence of Jameson 15YO “Millenium” PPS? :geek:

The return of Mitchell’s Sherry and Port PPS? The legendary/mythical Blue Spot (7YO), Yellow Spot (12YO) or Red Spot (15YO)? :ugeek:

Fingers crossed Gentlemen…

Splitter!!! Anyone born of the Emerald Isle should stick to the PPS - everyone else can have their 'single' or 'double' or 'treble' or whatever they want...!!

Wow, great news. Looking forward to the day of the publication. Some great ideas of new SPS bottling`s.
I really like the Idea about the Green Spot range (Blue,Yellow,Red and Green).
Other possible new bottling`s: Jameson 12Y.O. SPS/Jameson 18Y.O. SPS/Redbreast 18Y.O. SPS
My favorite would be another ore more Midleton Single Cask bottling(`s).What about a sherry or oak cask?

There'll be a couple of new pure pot still whiskeys launched, I presume, since two new pure pot still whiskeys are being launched onto the market. Things are looking up.

I fear the cat maybe out of the bag ...

Just spotted someone mentioning in another forum ... about 2 new yet to be released midleton whiskies from a beer enthusiast of all people :o :)

One seemingly is called Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy

and the other is Powers 12YO Single Pot Still.

Delighted that there is going to be a SPS Powers and should really make that brand more dynamic. I am really looking forward to tasting this.

No idea what to expect from the Barry Crockett Legacy but I presume it will be another fine release from IDL.

Slightly disappointed though that this was leaked as I was building up to the day of release ... ahh well these things can'r be helped ... but maybe we can contain it so ssssshhhh every one ;)

And, some more info...

Seems to be an all-bourbon-matured whisky, pure pot still.

A tie in SPS version of the Midleton Rare series so. It probably is wise to to play on the Midleton brand so I thinking that this will be expensive enough so and the powers 12 you where will they price that ... same as the Redbreast 12yo ????

I'd be as happy as anyone to see a Powers 12yo SPS, but isn't that kind of confusing, with an existing Powers 12yo blend? I didn't think it was a good idea whan Tullamore Dew ended up with two 10yos, different styles and from different distilleries.

Unless they now plan to retire the 12yo blend. That must have very low sales.

"Barry Crockett Legacy" sounds a lot like the great man is retiring. I'd be sorry to hear it, but he is leaving things in very good shape, if it's true.

Just looking at John's link to the label

Image

It actually states

"M", Midleton,
SINGLE POST IRISH WHISKEY
Barry Crockett, Legacy,
From second generation master Distiller, Barry Crockett and the legend that is Midleton Very Rare ....

So it looking like something similar to BMW with also having an "M" series ;)

So we will possibly see further expressions [possibly by the other great distillers and blenders down in IDL.

The Scotch do it regularly so to anybody is used to whiskey it would not present a problem but yes I spose you would have a point if we are talking about the general Whiskey Joe.

And it is also very possible that they would phase out the 12yo blend as you say but it would be a shame as I really love the Powers 12yo blend.

Do they? I really must educate myself on the Scottish blends. I remember a suggestion of a Scotch 101 tasting. That would suit me well.

Anyway, I was trying to add some of the suspense back for you with speculation about phasing out the 12yo blend, etc. Did it work?

Actually my comment was slightly misleading as I'm not sure if there is a line with a blend and single malt of the same age statement. But they certainly would have the likes of a 10yo cask strength and also a lower strength version. So not the same as what you were saying.

Still as long as there is a clear difference on the labels it should not pose a problem. But as you say still a bit of mystery there to keep us interested and of course we have not seen the Powers design or the "M" in the flesh which is worthy of anticipation build up in itself ;)

I actually think I had a taste of one of these the last time I was in Midleton. Billy Leighton gave me a taste of a mystery whiskey which he would not reveal what it was ... I guessed it was a Powers 18yo but thinking back now why would it not be a SPS Powers I was tasting :) Hope so as it was really nice.
