Jameson 7 year old search

Postby Good Whiskey Hunting » Mon Jun 25, 2012 1:45 am

I've been looking for an old bottle of Jameson 7 year old for some time now.I keep missing them at auctions for some reason or another.
Here's a picture
https://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285 ... rgejpg.jpg

thanks again Adrian for you great site.

Some friends of mine told me today one went recently for an estate auction in the midland's for a reasonable price.
Does anyone know where I'm likely to find one at a reasonable price?

Well here's something similar in the states... and what a bargain!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jameson-Whiskey-bottle-from-1960-/200783172140?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebf9c122c

Not to be outdone, this is from the same seller...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jameson-Whiskey-Distillery-Reserve-12-years-70cl-boxed-/200783163914?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebf9bf20a

How much would anyone expect these to go for these days? I mean I'm no expert, but can't imagine it's anywhere near that, especially for the latter.

Sorry this probably isn't very useful in your search but I thought I'd share anyway.

That is a fanciful price. I think you could get one of these for between 150 and 400 euro.

Thanks JRB.

I wonder if he would do a part exchange for another Jameson Distillery Reserve.
I recently got one for £26.20 + postage from Nicolls and Perks.

http://www.nickollsandperks.co.uk/produ ... 13015NVBND

I was thinking about € 150-180 for the old 7 year.

Is this the Distillery Reserve that would also be available at the distillery, or are there separate bottlings?

It's the first distillery resreve which was released in the 90's. It now looks like this. Further the older one was much richer in sherry cask, and very very nice if you ask me.

Yes indeed an real international man of whiskey.

I also noticed that the Johnnie Walker it will be hand delivered worldwide.
Be sure to buy it in the UK to avoid the customs charge from the US, or since it's hand delivered will that get past it?

Can you imagine been told you would not be allowed to bring a container on the plane full with liquid and risking leaving it in the cargo hold after selling it for £159000.

I wouldn't buy from this guy because of the prices (obviously) and the spelling errors under the description tab: "PalPal is accepted" & "Diamond Julilee Edition". :? If you're going to charge that much mark up on those bottles, at least pay to hire a proof reader.

I would be a bit careful with that one. The top looks bunched.

Did you see the other Jameson bottle.
I only ever seen the 12 year old in those hexagonal bottles.

The "Not a drop sold till it's Twelve Years old" was more often than not a separate black label under the main label. I reckon that this is a 12 year old with that label missing.

I have seen quite a few of that exact main label type too but would not be surprised if there was a few with out the 12yo statement full stop.

I'm don't like the look of it at all.
I feel it may be a relabel one. The only other one's similar were all 12 year old as you said, but there would not be enough room for that label on that hexagonal bottle.
It also say's Pure old Pot Still on the label but the 12 was referred to as extra Liqueur special from what I can find.

Any way it's gone out of my price range now. I've 3 different hexagonal bottle at this stage and another would ruin the symmetry of my drinks cabinet. :?

I've been looking around to try to help find one, but alas no luck thus far outside of what's been covered here already. It has brought up a question for me though. The old 7yrs from what I've seen come in green, brown, and clear bottles that are of similar size and shape. What differentiates these? Is it age, bottler, geography, etc? Or some other obvious reason I'm not thinking of at the moment? Haven't been able to do much looking into it but thought I'd throw out the question here in case anyone had a quick answer. Thanks!

The hexagonal bottle is genuine I believe but is the regular 3 star and not the 12
year old. Probable reason is that they used this type of bottle in the German export
market at that time. The 12 year old is a very distinctive label.

On the combined topics of old 7yr Jamesons and iffy bottles, I came across this one from a recent bonham's auction:

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19987/lot/162/

In my short experience in older bottles I've not seen the two labels so far apart on the bottle with such a space in between them. Could this have been relabeled or were they made this way at one time? The seal looks okay i think, and you'd expect it was vetted by bonham's at least. Another rich price again, anyway.

I have seen the standard Jamesons in the hexagonal bottle a number of times. I think fake Irish whiskey bottles are few and far between.

Have you a photo? Did Jameson varify that it was?

I have photos available, but can't figure out how to attach them here. I have sent Jameson a picture of the bottle and label displaying what appears to be a batch or lot number. their response was that it was produced in the 1930's. if you would like a picture send me an email address and I will be happy to forward a photo
