1973 MIDLETON PURE POT STILL IRISH WHISKEY

Postby s46867 » Fri Feb 17, 2012 3:10 am

Hi,
I am looking for some information about a Midleton 25 yr old Pure Pot Still Irish Whiskey. it is a 700ml bottle in mint condition, it is bottle number 124 from cask number #86583 and is housed in a key locked wood box.
It was passed from my Uncle to my Dad and he has since passed away and left it to my Mum.............We would like to sell it, but i cant seem to get an idea of what it is worth
The next snag, is we live in sunny Western Australia!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated! :D

That first price is a retail price and you will not realise that on the open market.

Original selling price on this was £300 IR pounds which equated to €381 Euro when we changed over to the Euro. And yes it did retail at €381 Euro at that stage

Over the years it has been subject to Irish Distillers Ltd price increases which has more to do with elevating the it to a premium level and that is fair enough.

However as this was available at a much lower cost up to 4 or 5 years ago iris Whiskey collectors will not offer anywhere near the current retail price. It seems to be averaging out at €800 on the open market. However another issue you have is that you are in Oz and this could well be another barrier to you selling it at even that open market price I suggested.

Best of luck selling though.

There were 3 different casks of the 1973 25yo as far as I'm aware Cask 86583,86584 & 86585

There was another 1973 which was a 30yo edition (So bottled 2003), Master Distillers private collection. But you said it was a 25yo.

I know there was a special bottling done for an American delegation to visited but can't remember the details of the age of the bottle but it was cask 48795. Was it that???

So get a picture up and we can check it out for you. I'm intrigued now 8-)

That's the 25year old released in 1999 I would say, but it is distilled in 1973 as it was bottled before it reached 26 years of age i.e. bottled early in 1999, hope that clarifies it. Unless of course the picture shows differently.

JohnM had it at one stage. A Jameson 16 year old Pot Still.
If it were that bottle i'd nearly fly to Oz for a look

That's the one,

Distilled in 1990 bottled in 2008
cask 48795
60.3% ABV
1 of 60 bottles.

There's one on display in Midleton Visitor Center so maybe you don't need to go to OZ ... but in this weather OZ is not a bad option ;)

There's another one on Donedeal but they're looking retail prices. It's bottle number is 1051, I thought there was only 1000 bottles of it.

I have had some interest. I have a few of them. Needless to say I am not looking for anything near retail price. Are you allowed sell alcohol on Donedeal?

I though you couldn't either. The seller has a business name, but I still say they'd need a disclaimer or something.
I've seen allot or whiskey and spirits on it recently.
