Why is the 88 & 89 being listed as in their original wooden cases? I thought the wooden cases didn't show up til 1990.

I noticed that.probably best to call them for more info. They didn't show 2005,'06,&'07 bottles either. It could be a case that they don't see the need to give full descriptions.

88,89 seem a bit suspect! no picture not very professional. 18% commision plus vat is off putting.

The 88 & 89 should have cardboard boxes. probably just a generalisation as 90 onwards had the wooden boxes.

I would not be too hard on them as they are probably a general auctioneers and if you get them for the estimate of 2-300 it is a great deal, that's 2 of them together remember.

More like €750 a bottle!! Have the 88,89 myself. Will never pay more than €500 for a midleton, but will never sell for less than €500. I have made a handy few quid over the years. Other two lots good value.

Hi, I'm new to whiskey investing and would like to know what everyone thinks about the following whiskey on whiskeyauction.com:

Midleton
26 years old
Cask no.39810
Bottle no.159 of 1000
Pure Pot Sill Irish Whiskey
with Port Pipe Finish
to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of
the Old Midleton Distillery
40% vol, 700ml e

The current bid is €752. Considering bidding for it. Looking at previous winning bids and else where online this seems to be a good price. Any advice?

I backed away when i discovered it did not come in a box or there was no cert.
If it was the 25 year old you could possibly get a box,but the 26 year old has the bottle number on the brass plate. If your buying to drink then its fine but from a collectible and resale point of view i think it's way over price.I had a max of €370 but i was intending to drink it.

I would not pay more than €400 without the box or cert, or € 800 with box or cert. My advice save your money wait for the complete package.
