The original idea was to call it "fear na mona" but when i realised that the true name of the product is poteen/potcheen , i decided to educate some of my yank friends to what Irish moonshine is realy called.

I realise how little we know about other countrys.

Hi Scotty,

Well done, it's taken a while and a lot of patience but you got there, i'd be interested in hearing a taste description of your new irish poitín (gaelic spelling) compared with your regular vodka.

Cheers Leo

This is a tough question for me Leo as i almost never consume alcohol. But i do recall the vodka tasting like alcohol with no descriptive flavor/USA spelling lol. Yet the poitin Had a recognisable flavour. I would say it was a bit more enjoyable than plain vodka.

I regret that i did not pay atention to the gaelic spelling when i made the label.
I think that David had given it to me ahile back. I would have put it on the label but there was too much information for me to absorb..

We were also thinking of saying that it was aged NEAR heavily charred burbon barrels. But i didnt want the item to be a laughing stock as i took the project quite seriously.

Well the Irish style whiskey is next after i do a few modifications to my cooker and boiler. The 100% malted barley is waiting.

I think you remember that this poitin thing started out as my attempt to do irish whiskey. With the input from this website, i realised what i was actually doing and changed the goal of the project.

I will get it right next time

Hmm maybe burbon chips.

Btw Ill guess that a single malt un aged Irish whiskey is the same as the moonshine.
Coments or opinions on this guess please.

Ill use poitin from now on----i read tht the pronounciation is ((potcheen)) Help me on getting that correct please.

Hi Scotty,

Potch-een is a common pronunciation, even in Ireland this varies, being from the southwest I prefer Putch-een

Gaelic spelling is poitín, the translation into English has resulted in many variants Potcheen, Poteen etc

Literal translation is 'small pot'

Cheers
