Yes, November is the last formal meeting of the year. December is busy for venues and members alike.

Perhaps a trip to Bushmills or Midleton too?
A tasting outside of Dublin - Galway perhaps?
A different grains tasting - a wheat, a rye, a corn, a buckwheat, a pure pot still, a single malt, a single grain.
A finishes tasting - perhaps doubling up standard issue single malts with their cask finished equivalents?
+1 on the North America tasting
+1 on the round the world tasting

What about a Celtic Fringe tasting? You could have bottles from:

    Scotland
    Ireland (North)
    Ireland (South)
    Wales (Penderyn)
    Brittany (Glann Ar Mor)
If you were feeling brave you could throw in the Manx spirit. :o
There was also story a few years back that the St. Austel Brewery in Cornwall had distilled some whisky and laid it down. I don't know if anything ever came of it but it might be fun to find out. That would complete the set.
It's better to have drunk it all, than never to have drunk at all.

WOuld love it lads if ye'r on for it ... might even tempt a few of the old spooks out of the closet and get a galway branch going. 2hrs Dublin (M50) to Galway (Motorway end) now ... however I could do mine to Leo's in just slightly over that so I reckon it can be done in 1hr 30 mins ;)

There are now three tastings scheduled for 2010 already.
Can I ask when these were finalised?

A few ideas for this year or next:

Not for sale in your local shop: A tasting of some rarer editions of popular whiskeys that not everyone has had the chance to try. Options include duty-free editions, finishes and single casks, foreign-only retail editions, and limited releases. This needn't be too expensive, and it would be a treat for everyone, as there'd be bound to be one dram on the night, be it a Swedish Connemara, or an American-release Knappogue or a duty-free only Bush, that you had never tried before.

High spirits: Cask strength night. Doesn't matter what it is or where it comes from, so long as its over 46 proof in the bottle and qualifies as whiskey. Perhaps we might limit the drams to six on this night, though?

Gone but not forgotten: Scotland has its silent stills - Ireland has its discontinued drams. A tasting of some brands that are no longer in production. Hewitts, the Redbreast blend, innumerable Cooleys, etc. There's a wide range to choose from here, and while many brands died for a reason, we should be able to upturn a half dozen decent ones at least. Equally, sometimes it's interesting to find out WHY a brand was axed. Tasting it is sometimes the answer!

A full Jameson vertical tasting might be cool too. Or at least, it would be if we could cover much of the range without blowing the annual budget on a Jameson VR.

Just a few ideas, with the hope of sparking some more discussion of what members would like to see in tastings.

JJ's brings back memories. I used to go there regularly to watch Louis Stewart. Not sure if he plays there anymore.

Do they have a good whiskey selection there?

I used to see Louis there myself. I haven't noticed him on the schedule lately.

It's just a normal bar, whiskey-wise. The standards + a few premium whiskeys. But we would be bringing our own.

remember beeing in that fancy french bar on dawson street, there was a jazz band, i was going mad after 10 minutes of listening to that s..it, so i left the place.

cold running on my back, even think of it..

I am quite a big jazz fan. Lots of different kinds of jazz, like anything else, including whisky.

Must admit I'm with Zoltan on this ... nothing like whiskey & rock ;)

Never been much into that white Jazz stuff and the freeform jazz I find even annoying. 4 or five lads playing different tunes all together :P

But both genres are linked ... it all came from gospel in the first place.
