Not the best quality but just the idea

Or this virtually the same, slightly different gaelic text but a bit clearer

Rough sketch, as usual. This uses the ogham representation of 'e' - one horizontal and four intersecting verticals.

Again, it's simple, monochrome and modern yet it also incoporates references to Irish tradition (ogham) and Irish whiskey ('e').

Please ignore the crudity of the drawing. This could be dressed up in lots of ways. Ogham can also be written vertically.

and I thought you were trying to put us all behind bars already

I like it's simplicity though

So we still have the concealed 'e' for those in the know.

Have you tried that with lower case i's going down the spin, just for effect rather than anything else.

I haven't. It's supposed to be a continuous, straight vertical line for the ogham and lowercase i's wouldn't achieve that effect. That was my reasoning anyway. I'm willing to be proved wrong!

A simpler Shield/crest idea

again the symbolism can be changed around.

A Sheaf & a pot still to represent whiskey

The sheaf maybe a bit masonic looking but I liked the simplicity

Basically the 4 crowns representing the 4 provinces

And the harp for Ireland of Course

have anyone have realised that, this logo topic is a joke between 3-5 people on the forum, and nobody else is care :?:

when i showed up my idea on the society meeting in march, there was almost everybody happy with it :!:
at the last meeting there was no other suggestion about it, so all i can see, a few who is not happy with it trying to come up with something, but without success

just a reminder about the logo definition; :!:

AN EASILY RECOGNISABLE GRAPHIC DESIGN ELEMENT,OFTEN INCLUDING A NAME , SYMBOL OR TRADEMARK REPRESENTING AN ORGANISATION OR PRODUCT, FEATURING NAME EMBELLISHED WITH COLOR AND SYMBOL.
IT IS A BASIS OF THE ORGANISATION MARKETING, PACKAGING, PROMOTIONAL AND STATIONARY MATERIALS

so if there is someone who have an idea which fits for the above definition, please come up with it ;)

but do not think too fancy, or too detailed, remember it is most of the times fits in an inch or so size squere or circle, and you have to recognise what is on it, even at a small size:!:

Well I don't know about that. Personally I'm not a fan of the three stills as I find it too similar to other logos and suggestive of triple distilling.
I think a traditonal inclusive symbol associated with Ireland, and adapted to suit the theme would be our best bet, and promote an all-island organisation. Thats why I'm fond of the four provinces motif, or perhaps a harp of sheaves of barley even?

Although, that said, at a later date when the society has more resources another could be chosen.

Hi Zoltan, Just to let you know I have no issue with your idea and actually think it was a good one to start off and inspired the rest of us. However I do have one reservation though and that's its similarity with other whiskey groups ... so therefore on those grounds I don't think it stands up to 'AN EASILY RECOGNISABLE GRAPHIC DESIGN ELEMENT' as it may be confused with others. Especially the Irish Whiskey Trail which is a commercial concern and I would not like IWS to be confused with that site.

Also what you forget it your design was the ONLY design people saw at the meeting (beside me holding up one for a couple of seconds) so in the absence of any other alternative people were just agreeing that is was a good design but that should not necessarily constitute that is right for the Society.

Seriously Zoltan, I am not knocking your design but I am not keen on settling on something because of lack of choice. That is why we are trying to get people involved hence all the posting here but like the rest of the forum people are not overly interested in getting involved. And the 5 people who are posting here are probably the only 5 people that post on the whole forum regularly. There is very little interaction on the forum as of yet ... remember only 13 people with double figures in posts and only 7 with 25 or more.

What we need to do it select a number of ideas and then get them done up professionally yours included and then voted on by the Membership. If your logo is still the choice of the majority I will be happy to go with it.

I am throwing up as many ideas as I can just as it may spark off another idea with someone else.

I would suggest that possibly in 2 meetings time we get a selection of ideas to be voted on and just knock it on the head.

i hope we get a few dozen and select the best, and get this thing sorted, but it is hard as you said with only 5 of us making something for it, and none seems to care to reply for it

and i still do not know why people not reply for the forums, becouse i think there is more looking, but not reply

In all fairness to the rest of the group they may not be into the whole on-line thing. Of the 50 odd forum members at least half are not directly involved in the Dublin meetings and are from outside Ireland.

We'll get there though and a decision will have to be made sooner than later.

Have you any more ideas?

I find, like Mr IWC, that logo ideas are still popping into my head. I think there was some urgency to the logo hunt at one point but it's not so pressing any more, right? Let's see what emerges.

There is one other consideration for a logo design: scalability. If the logo can be described precisely in words in terms of basic shapes (rectangles, lines, circles...) and text then I can create a scalable vector graphic implementation myself and from there generate any imagery we need for the website and so on. That's great flexibility because a professional designer will probably supply the logo in eps format or something else we don't have the tools to manipulate.

If the image is complicated, creating a scalable graphic is a ton more work, must be done professionally and might be expensive. And it limits the possibility of adapting the logo in house.

Hello folks,
I have to say I like the very fancy logo designed by Adrian (with harp, shamrock, cask and still)
(not sure about the harp - reminds me of letters from the revenue  - and there's a superfluous stag in there too ;) )
Not so gone on the 4 provinces idea - perhaps restoring the cask to the simpler crest instead of the 4 crowns might work - although it looks like something that would appear on a rugby shirt!

Concerning David's point about the scalability/conversion to EPS - I've successfully converted JPGs to EPS (costs about $5.)
Keep the ideas coming.

can we make a pot still shape logo?

i do not think anyone else have that, and just write inside irish whiskey society , and place a little irish flag on the top of the pipe :?:

so it is irish pot still, with our name and flag

how is that :?:
