Pomeroy's Whisky

Hello from Germany,
do anybody know this whiskey?
I found the bottle at a lonesome beach in Danmark lat week.

Looks very interesting. I don't know what it is - but it's interesting it's called "whisky". There's a place in Northern Ireland called Pomeroy. Was there a distillery in Tyrone?

Never heard of it either but that would not be unusual especially if Pomeroy was a surname and they were an independent bottler. Like the idea of a Pomeroy distillery though however no idea if we could find out

Would it help to know the capacity of the bottle? How much liquid does it hold, up to the bulge in the neck, say?

thank you very much for your interest.
The capacity of the bottle is 750 ccm (ml). The high of the bottle is 26 cm and the diameter from the bottom is 8,5 cm.

Welcome to the forum leuchtturmwaerter.

If the capacity is 750ml it means it can be no earlier than when the USA set 750ml as the offical size for imported and domestic spirits. 700ml was set as the official European size around the same time. So it must be from the early 70s or so surely?

What means "up to the bulge in the neck"? If it means the line i added to the photo I think I have to measure again.

It is difficult to say how old this bottle is, I would put it between 1930-1960,

Your best bet is to do a bit of research into bottle making..

I note there are no seams (joins) on the bottle, this could indicate that it is from the machine made bottle era, I'd say 1920s+

The lip also would seem to indicate a driven cork bottle and this would probably make it pre 1970

Secondly Spirit Merchants in the UK often bottled their own whisky,

I have done a lot research into Irish Whiskey and never come across this name before!!!!

Hello Friends, there was a owner of the Strathisla distillery in Scotland arround 1949, called 'George Jay Pomeroy'. Had he something to do with this bottle?
