Minch Malt was founded in 1847 by Matthew J. Minch from 2 previously founded maltings in athy. That makes it over 150 years old. It would be a sad day to see Minch Malt go especially with all that history behind it.

The Irish Times today reports a rumour that the new owners of Greencore Malt intend to close the Athy plant. That would be Minch Malt. Did Greencore have any other maltings in Ireland?

The main point of the article is to report that Guinness has been importing malt from Britain.
