Single Pot Still tasting book is a nice little read and pictures. Going down well with a mug of tea and it's FREE :)

L
Mealy's Auctioners in their sale on 3 April have 38 lots of Irish whiskey listed. From the collection of a "whiskey expert" whose interest spans 40 years.
Check the catalogue on Mealy's website: items 507 to 544.
Good luck.

Are you the whiskey expert ;)

Again I find some of the valuations high & low and even the strategy curious.

Midleton VR 1990 400-600

Yet they have catalogued 6 bottles from 1984-1989 at 2000-2500. Would the seller have been not served better if they sold all separately???

Some nice bottles there though.

Here's another auction coming up next Wednesday. No interesting Irish one for me but I always like to see what price thing are making. There are a few nice Scotches to be had.

Hopefully there'll be a few new bargain buys before Lent is over.

This Bargain Buys thread is becoming another Auction Watch thread. Perhaps we could drag it back to covering the latest bargains in Dunnes and keep all the auction stuff in the Collectors Corner forum?

Agreed, Guys try to keep auction stuff in the other sub forum.

Tesco and many other outlets seem to have Bushmills Regular at the knock down price of €15.

Who said Bushmills are not pushing in Ireland ;)

I'm assuming it's a new government directive to discourage binge drinking?

It's part of our new trade deal with China. We get the use of their cyber division to "adjust" spirit prices all over the web in favour of our domestic industry.

I see they've a sale on the Jack now, It's down to €99,000. That's a €637 saving.
Here's the link.

I'll take responsibly for that comment. I'd go further to say it may be Tesco pushing it as opposed to Diageo.

I got a bottle of Blackbush and a Jameson for €20 each. Cheers for the post

Tyrconnell 5 star for €27 per bottle. I picked of the few bottle I found and forwarded on my good fortune.

I see they sell the current bottle for €32 so I'm very happy. :D

I only wish it was available to more.

Keep your eyes peeled and see if any bargains can be found.

Tesco: Currently 2 bottles of whiskey for €40. These could be 2 one-litre bottles of Power's, for example; or 2 Black Bush (70 cl); or mix n match. Need I say more.

I was going to report Paddy for €20 / 1L in Dunnes but Ken has me beat above. Buy 2L of Powers for €40 instead. Amazing price.

At that price you could bathe in it, or rub it into the horses. But I'd be happy to have a glass of either in my hand, to while away an evening.

ok, not strictly a bargain alert but a way of saving a few cent on whiskey purchases ...

http://www.fatcheese.ie/cashback/the-whisky-exchange/
http://www.fatcheese.ie/cashback/the-drink-shop/

Essentially, create an account on FatCheese, then via the link above navigate to The Whisky Exchange website or The Drink Shop and then purchase whatever takes your fancy, and 5% of the bill excluding postage gets credited back to your FatCheese account for you to withdraw or donate or whatever you want ....

I have used Fatcheese for other things and have received cashback without problems .....

Has anyone any idea what the Aldi Glen Marnoch 24 year old is? Only €39.99 but was released last Thursday so may be all gone, going to check tomorrow.

Bushmills 1608, the Anniversary stuff, will be available at Aldi on December 6th. €60.

I don't think that will last long.

The Glen Marnoch is a 24yo Speyside distilled in 1988, 40% abv, bought one of two that were remaining on the shelf in Sandyford.

The distillery concerned is a closely guarded secret, speculation is that it might be a Dalmore, wishful thinking suggest a Glenfarclas.

Reviews mixed, lowdown suggests that it is inoffensive and worth a go!
