Bargain Buys (whiskey, whiskey books, etc)

Let's talk whiskey.

You could check that, or you could look at the recycle logo on the back. If it's on it's own that's the 2005. If it has a picture of a pregnant lady drinking with a big red X then it's a later one. Probably easier than remembering the bottle code. ;)[/quote]

IainB is right, the easier way is the lady on the back.

Yes, if you're buying a present for a pregnant lady, make sure it's the earlier version.

Not an Irish, but over here (I wont make the same mistake again by calling it the 'mainland' lol) Sainsbury's have Glenlivet 15 at £20.

They are all out of 2005 Redbreast in Midleton.

Well, actually, they have a fair few in display cases but the woman there refused to sell me any of those - apparently, they have to be kept 'for the archive'. :(

Tesco Jameson 1000ml €25 bought 3 bottles for the christmas party.
Great value compared to:
Tesco own brand Irish Whiskey (3 year old oak mature!!! with caramel colour added) €18 for 700ml

Remove the bottle from the box and check if it has a date printed on the inside of the carton.
The original had 06OCT2005 printed on the inside. I've check the one bottle I have at hand and I can't find a bottle code imprinted on the bottle as is usual with IDL bottlings

but there is a basic code on the label of

20005915

and bar code of

5 011007 019518

Not sure if these are different from further releases though as I don';t have any to hand?

This may be useful for reference purposes . Bottle code L53273071 with the carton code (inside) J3 625449 06OCT05 01:54 0012683

Maybe it means that fat people should only drink the earlier version - thankfully I have a good stock.

This is the first incarnation of the WIld Geese brand from circa 2003. Was rebranded in a similar but green style in circa 2006 before they totally revamped the and created a range that we see to day.

Check

and click on Wild Geese to see pictures of them all.

Hmmm....Tesco are good at that. Too much of their own-label stuff is just nasty. In the week before Christmas last year, I put a bottle of 'Finest' Armagnac in my trolley. It was around £28-£30. There was nothing fine about it. I've had better from a bottle at half that price. If I'd noticed 'Contains colour - caramel' on the back label, it would have gone straight back on the shelf.

I remember TWE selling one for £1250 a couple of year ago,now selling for £1999
now that's serious inflation in this market.

When this was first released, it was priced in Ireland at €2,000. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that they also produced twice the amount of bottles as originally planned. Then, in one fell swoop, it went up to €4k or €5k. Then we bailed out Anglo...

It was €1600 to my knowledge and they produced 400 bottles. Then in mid 2008 they bumped the price to €5k and the 1973 master distillers from €1000 to €4k .I wonder how that affected sales?
I know that ID no longer list it so i presume that it didn't dissuade the Anglo and INBS executives after all.

I think Zoltan has about 399 bottles of it.
They originally told retailers there would be 200 bottles.
