Would that be the 17.5 Tyrconnell or the bathroom blend?

So far tonight I've had Bushmills 12yo select casks, Busmills 12yo distillers selection, Busmills 16yo and now the new 1608. Care to guess which one I like best?

Nearly.

1608 tonight. Funnily enough seeing as it's a blend. Which just goes to show that we, or at least I should never discount blends. Of course I haven't been near the 21 or the Millenium tonight.

Anyway, I think I need to go to bed - some crazy Hungarian had me out drinking in Dublin till all hours last night and I'm wrecked. Now anyone care to guess who that was!!!!

I went camping over the weekend. Per park regulations, no alcohol allowed.

So when I got home on Sunday I treated myself to three helpings of Jameson 12 yr. Had to make up for lost time.

A Tomatin 56.4% 17yo (1989) single cask from Cadenheads.

Just killed the bottle which I reckon is open over 2 years and it still seems to taste as vibrant today as it did 2 years ago. I suppose that is the plus of cask strength

And excellent whiskey and a major step up from a 12yo Distillery bottling.

OK - to kill the night, just had a drop of "Suntory Old" - purchased and opened ~1987 and still going strong.
No perceived improvement or diminution, but then again at 02:15, who can tell?

Tried the 2 of them together recently - I think I agree.

Nothing too exciting so far tonight - decided to try a few Bushmills so had the 10yo as a base line. Nothing to set the world alight but a very pleasant easy drinker. And one of the whiskeys that started me off on this 6 or 7 years ago - at the time I was drinking this and a 12yo Jamseon with the brother in law - first time I had two whiskeys head to head to compare.

Anyway just moved onto the 12yo Select Casks - a very unusual Bushmills but one I'd forgotten how much I liked. A lot more going on than the 10.

Also munching my way through a big plate of spanish ham - I feel I should really be drinking a chilled dry sherry! But no, the whiskey works just fine!

Having a wee aperitif dram of the 2 year old Kilbeggan spirit (remember the test tubes?) before I head out for dinner with the outlaws.
It's a lovely sup, nice kick to it, pale as straw, touch of fire on the tongue and plenty of Cooley fruitness.
Am I alone in preferring this to the recently released 3 year old whiskey, which appeared to me to suffer from the lower abv, pollution with significant caramel and a woody off-note?

A Laph 10yo Cask Strength at a hefty 58.3%

As I have not been drinking much whiskey I may have to add a slight touch of water of maybe I'll leave well alone and have a glass of water on the side.

Anyway does not dissappoint ... plenty of Laphs power in this. With the peat coming to the fore over the smoke.

Think I'll just head away now and enjoy this
