What are you having yourself?

Let's talk whiskey.

I got a bottle of Jim Beam's Devil's Cut in Tesco for €24 so I thought I'd give it a go. Not to bad but I think it would be a mixing whiskey.

The Devils Cut has given me a taste for bourbon, so I decided to have some Jefferson Reserve. I never tried a whiskey that opens up so well with a drop of water. Not bad stuff for in front of the fire on a Wednesday night. I'm off for a few days therefore I can have more than one or two tonight.
Betting some practice in for the presidents tasting tomorrow night.

Having a little more of the Devil's cut. I'm actually cutting it with some Bushmills 10 year old. Not a bad combination.

Your post inspired me to open both the Yellow Spot and the Talisker. I was holding off til Christmas but since I had a couple of bottles of each it was time for an early opening.

I do hope Yellow Spot makes it to Ontario (though am scared about the potential price if it does...)

Last night involved a large pour of Four Roses Single Barrel for Binny's (Illinois liquor store chain) @ 55.8% using the OESQ recipe. The banana note that is the signature of the yeast strain (the 'Q' in the recipe code) used in the bottling has worn off from the nose, but is still present in the palate. It has been open for about 18 months, iirc and is still about 2/3 full...must experiment with adding water the next time I pour it.

I opened the Society bottling on Friday night. I met Matt from Switzerland and Thomas from Germany. Golferden joined for a sample. I had to work but was able to enjoy the craic.

I hope the lads had a good day in Midleton on Saturday.

Just draining the last of 2 bottles, an IB of Balmenach. A 26yo at cask strength, have always loved this distillery and the Deerhunter18yo used to be a firm favourite but not even sure it s still available any more.

Now on Knappogue 1951, this really improved after being open for a while ... a rarity well worth trying but not sure it is worth the huge money that is asked of it. Patches of brilliance but there is also the woodiness with is a flaw.

I love Balmenach too, I was there a number of years ago just after the new year in the snow. I haven't seen the Deerstalker 18 in quite some time, wish I'd stocked up. Have you tried the BBR 30 from Balmenach? I keep meaning to order one, but something else always comes up.

I can say, the committee has picked a great cask there
I had the chance to try the new SC from CWS on Sunday and the last cask on T2 on Monday. All outstanding Whiskey`s and each one has is own signature.

We had a great day at the Midleton Distillery on Saturday, all in all we where four people on the tour,so our tour guide had some plus info`s
Made some pictures of the nearly finished new Distillery, will post them in the next day`s.

T2 SC:
There was a topic a while back on the number off release off Midleton SC in T2. Now, they are not four, they are five :!: :!:

Just to note that it was a vote of all the society members who were available that night, rather than just the committee. Go democracy!

I'm having some Jameson NAS right now. Not fancy, but it's the closest bottle to empty and I need the space on my shelf. Actually it's been a while since I had one, and I'm liking it.

I started the night with a little of the society bottling. Then after a can of Guinness stout, the real stuff, I finished another bottle of Powers JL with the brother who is up from Kerry for a few days.

Not too bad for a Monday.

Right now I'm having a bushmills select cask 12yo- the old one from heathrow with some rum cask in the mix. I opened this recently and didn't enjoy it at all and I'm not getting it tonight either. Yet this used to be a favourite - when this was regularly available I went through several bottles. So either this is a bad bottle or my tastes have changed I the few years since. Or come to think of it this was a whiskey I used to drink in summer - I remember putting a big dent in a bottle in my sisters back garden some years ago - I Had help!
So any thoughts is it bad bottle, tastes changing or a seasonal thing?

Paddy Old Irish WHISKY (no e) Cork Distilleries Co (approx 1970) and Power's Gold Label DUBLIN whiskey (approx 1970). Both are so much better than their modern counterparts. Bloody good whisky.

I'm just in from work and opened another PJL. I'm buying them by the case now. I saved enough of the society Midleton to see me trough Christmas, it shall make a nice night cap.

So now you're going to go through a case in the same time you used to take with a bottle. It's just like cigarettes.

Only 3 bottles in the case. I have to travel 3+ hours round trip to get them so I'm buying extras now

I'm on the Redbreast today. I usually don't have one this early but it Christmas Day.

On the Yellow Spot. I hope they don't introduce a Black Spot, else we shall all end up as extras in Treasure Island. Happy Chistmas Willy and stay off the John' Lane.
