Quotes from Oliver Hughes at http://www.sbpost.ie/newsfeatures/busin ... 52556.html

But it hasn’t all been plain sailing. Ambitious plans to open a whiskey distillery in Dingle, Co Kerry, earlier this year foundered when property prices crashed.

‘‘We had hoped to open the Dingle distillery six to eight months ago, but it has been very problematic," said Hughes. ‘‘It has now been relocated to the Fitzgerald Sawmill site in Dingle, but without our local partner, so we’ll be going it alone.

‘‘We have finished our trial distillations in Cooley and our cream liqueur with the Gleeson group in Clonmel, and we aim to be distilling onsite by February, and using the New York bar as our shop window."

Oh well the photo's are just for posterity then... mind you it would have been a very restricted site to develop.

Onwards and upwards, good to hear the plans are still in the pipeline...

Saga rumbles on, looks like the former local partner to the distillery project is to open a brewery on the originally proposed site pictured above.

No update on what the Porterhouse group plans are for the distillery project on the old sawmill site.

Dingle Distillery Plans

Postby TheWhiskeyBro » Sun May 01, 2011 9:08 pm

The latest word on the street is that the brewery will be up and running for the summer...

Discussed here by our beer cousins http://www.beoir.org/community/viewtopic.php?p=68860

And some photos from the Dingle Brewing Company http://www.facebook.com/media/set/fbx/? ... 6273321187

But back to the whiskey world, apparently work has begun on the sawmill site and everything could be up and running by November.

I may be mistaken but I think they took delivery of a 'gin still' in dublin recently?

Also there may be an initial contract with Cooley to supply some product for the Dingle Distillery? It would make perfect sense that they have a product for visitors until they are up and running.

Anybody else heard anything more concrete. I think it is great that we will have both a Brewery and a Distillery to visit in Dingle in the near future.

Curiouser and curiouser, if you skip down to the last paragraph you could interpret it that the Brewery will also distil a limited amount of whiskey i.e. a cask a week, does this mean that technically we will have two distilleries in Dingle.

Could this mean 7 Distilleries by 2013: Midleton, Bushmills, Riverstown, Kilbeggan, Dingle x 2, & Belfast.
