What's your latest whiskey purchase?

Let's talk whiskey.

Just ordered a Balvenie 21yo Port wood - last bottle I had was the only thing I drank for 2 weeks until it vanished! Always a good sign and I think it will be my Christmas whisky this year.

I ordered two of the 55% bottles. One to open and one to add to my 'zawa collection.

The high prices of Karuizawa have been putting me off of lately and i've even turned my back on a Noh bottling - i shocked myself. A Japanese whisky guru friend of mine reckons the Spirit Of Asama isn't good (it is suspiciously cheap!), i hope for our sakes that he's wrong. Looking forward to it regardless :) .

I think it'll be fine. I generally find the bottler to be solid and the post on TWE blog sounds promising:

Iain, is the 21yo Balvenie the cask strength or the 40% one. The cask strength travel retail version has to be one of the tastiest Balvenies I have ever tried.

He referred to them in the plural so i assume so. I just pm'd him to be sure.

I'm expecting mine on Monday so i'll crack one open then. I'm expecting those 77 casks to be not great, hence they're not released as single casks for top dollar. But i hope that vatting together has filled the gaps and some distillery character shows up.

Roll on Monday :) .

Edit: John, I just checked Nonjatta to see if Dram had posted up any notes yet, he hasn't, but Reuben has. I never agree with this guy but he basically says they're both ok (he scores the 55% a fraction higher for being less rubbery and mushroomy).

 You're half right there. It was the sherry cask Noh i didn't go for. The bourbon cask 'zawa was just too unusual to ignore so i got one. But yes it's difficult for me to ignore those Noh bottlings.

I'll post up some images very soon.

Another Karuizawa for me. A 1984 this time. Picked up the two Whisky Exchange Karazawas recently, and the bourbon cask Noh bottling. In summary, Karuizawa.

Also a Writers Tears Cask strength, two whiskybroker Auchentoshans and a Glen Albyn Rare Malts.

Janey mack, that's more than I realised.

Bottle of a Single Malt from Cooley called 'Conaill Carnagh' done for Jean Boyer.com. Picked it
up when I was over in Clermont-Ferrand this week. Excl. to the French market . Cost 49 Euro.
Didn't know it existed until last year one sold on Whisky Auction ! Forget what that one sold
for ???

I remember them. One went for €120 and as you said it can be bought for €49. There must have been a couple of people that really wanted it.
Have you tried it?

Not a purchase but a nice swap, the Midleton Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin bottle. As I live in Germany I always wanted one to add to my collection.

 Cheers Matt.
