What's your latest whiskey purchase?

Let's talk whiskey.

Was in Glesgae the weekend before last. No check in bag, so no bottles on the plane. Had to mail them back and they arrived on Monday.
A 36 year old Dallas Dhu distilled in 1971, a 'Cask of Yamazaki' heavily peated malt which I tried and really liked at Whisky Live last year, and an Octomore 2, which, if it is as smokey as is claimed, I will pipette judiciously into cheap supermarket blends in order to keep my phenol-favouring other half away from the Lagavulins, Bowmores and Caol Islas.

Do you really like the Enigma?? It's the worst Bowmore I ever had and one of the worst whiskies generally....

I recently purchased a Redbreast 15y.o. and Laphroaig 15y.o. , about 50euros each.

Hi Tsolias,
That's a very good price for both of those whiskeys! Do you mind if I ask where you bought them?

Hi John,

I know it's a very good price and surely I don't mind you asking, I bought them from 2 different liquor stores in my hometown, Athens. There are some merchants-liquor stores down here that do not know what is going on with certain whisky bottles and their price level globally, especially older ones that are upon the shop selves for years. So, there is a big possibility for people who know, to get really lucky.

I tell you this. Last summer I went to Chios Island (northeast Greece) for a friend's marriage and stayed for 10 days holiday. As I walked through a central street I saw a nice liquor store with a good whisky collection and went in. After 10 minutes I walked out, with a Jameson 15yo pure pot still (35euros) :o and an old collectible (early '90s) Glen Rothes 12y.o. (25euros)

After a whistlestop tour of Speyside/Eastern Highlands during which we visitied Edradour/Benriach/Glendronach/Glen Garioch and Duty Free (Paid) I landed back with the following:

Lagavulin 16 Distillers' Edition 43%
Glenfarclas 17 43%
Signatory Highland Park 17 (1991-2008) 46%
Glenlivet 21 - Archive 43%
Bowmore 16 Ltd Ed 1990 Sherry Matured 53.8%
Edradour 10 Ribiera Del Douro (2nd Rel) 46%

Plenty to chew on there for a while :D

I got those new test tubes of Kilbeggan spirit. Tried the new make, quite good. Also got the Knappogue miniatures.

Tried the Writers' Tears. It was pretty nice, I think.

Ya ... the new make is really nice and hopefully will be a lovely whiskey in years to come.

I like the Irishman 70 so I guessing that it is something similar so looking forward to tasting it ...

Very good. Have you tried it? Can it be bought anywhere in Europe?

I bought a Bladnoch 8 and a Karuizawa 1967.

My most recent buys were an Octomore 2, a 71 Dallas Dhu, A 93 Cask of Yamazaki, a Bushmills Caribbean Select Casks, A 93 Glenfarclas sherried vatting, the Kilbeggan test tubes, the Writers Tears and a 'Crock o' Gold' miniature, which appears to be a 50s or 60s bottling by Gilbeys.
I can't afford any of that, needless to say. I'll be living on cornflakes for months now. Lidl cornflakes.

Fair play brett, and wow you moved fast on those 3 classics. Did you get a decent deal on them? Anyhow you have a nice base of bottles under your belt to play with now.

Laphroaig wins hands down for me especially the Quarter Cask which I love. I find the connemara a tad light but the cask strength is good too. Check your messages and I'll send you a sample.

Hmmm...
I've Always preferred the Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 YO, the Quarter Cask is too 'musty' for my poor palate...
That said, I'm a huge fan of the new 18YO... (at this point Adrian falls asleep snoring, he's heard this from me too many times)
