Let's talk whiskey.

N. Ireland Off-Licences

Postby rshd301 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 10:27 pm

Any advice on good off-licences in the north (particulary Belfast). I know of Fairley's in Coleraine, The Lighthouse in Whiteabbey and the Grapevine in Belfast. Are there any others with a good selection of Irish or Scotch that anyone's aware of?

Thanks,

Neil

I don't know any off licences with a great range of whisk(e)y. Sainsburys has a reasonable whisk(e)y range, including an own brand Irish single malt made by Cooley.

Direct Wine Shipments in Belfast is the best off licence in the North that I know. Terrific range of wine.

Nicholsons in Downpatrick is also good.

Long's supermarket in Derry, now a SuperValu, sometimes gets bottles from Gordon and McPhail, but I don't know if they've got any lately. Weirdly enough, I've seen G&M bottlings in a small off licence in Lisnaskea.

Winemark and Curleys are the biggest local off licence chains but I haven't ever seen a great range of whiskeys in them. Winemark in the Buttercrane, Newry, had Old Comber in the 90s, for £30, but foolishly I didn't buy it...

+1 on Direct Wine Shipments.
Best value I've ever found up there, with the exception of the time an offie on the Antrim Road priced up Bush 16 at £27 and got cleaned out of eight bottles by me.
