Bandon distillery

Let's talk whiskey.

Bandon distillery

The Irish Times reports today that West Cork Distillers is renovating an old distillery in Bandon, to open in June:

According to Townsend, there are some old buildings from Bandon Distillery (ceased distilling 1925) remaining so perhaps that's the location.

I was there in January and didn't hear a thing. Most of the buildings are intact and plenty of room for a Distillery. It was many times bigger than the Dingle Distillery site.

This is great news for whiskey in general.

I still have those photo's willie and i can put them up here if anyone's interested. Bandon's a curious one because they made both malt and pot still whiskey during the original boom (theres still a bottle in the nearby pub). Any way of contacting these people and seeing if their interested in taking the thing seriously David? I'd love to have a word with them about their intentions for the book

No, I've been entirely unsuccessful finding someone to talk to there. Now that there is a new distillery in the offing, I'm tempted to have another go. If I get anywhere I'll let you know.

Good article from the Irish Times --- this is the bit though that I have difficulty with as I picked
up a bottle of this some time ago believing that I had bought an Irish whiskey ????? (The labeling
on this particular item I find confusing and I believe that I am not the only one to find it so !! )
'The third product is Kennedy, a “Celtic fusion of whiskey and malt” made from young
whiskey infused with Irish and Bourbon oak and steeped in malt.

I'd also love to get some clarification on the above concoctions. I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before you corner them for some real answers David ;)
