Celtic Whiskey Club

Let's talk whiskey.

Well I tried the Preston's and it didn't live up to my expectations. I had a drop of 7 year old Jameson and expected a step up from it. Not in the same ball park. The nose was very interesting, but the taste was not what I'd expect from a 10 year old Jameson of that time.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to taste it all the same. Looking forward to more.

I've just arrived in from work and there's a package on the table for me.

Writers Tears cask strength. These guys do great whiskey. Beautiful whiskey. I look forward to getting my hands on a bottle. I have enjoyed the last 2 and this tastes better again.

It's very good. How much for a bottle?

It's €125 a bottle.

It's a little steep but fairs well against the recent CWS Midleton at a similar price.

Even with the sample I think I'd buy it ahead of the Jameson 18 also in the price bracket.

It would be great to have all 3 but given a choice I know where my money would go.

I tried both the Writers Tears and Irishman Cask Strengths at Whisky Live. Different proportions of similar components but quite a different taste. I preferred the Irishman but others would choose differently, I'm sure.

I tried the Irishman too but am bias toward Writers Tears I think. I've been a fan since I first fount it. I remember the Irishman been good alright.

A sample of Celtic cask Sé arrived today. I'm not able to try it at the moment but it sound inviting. A 22 year old double distilled single malt from the Teeling Whiskey Company. It's finished in a Anima Negra red wine cask. It spent its first 21 years in a refill Sherry Hogshead. It smell great.

Anyone going to the CWS tasting on Thursday? Celtic Casks 1-6. I'll be there. From your description, I'm looking forward to trying the 6.

It the first one I've tried. Very nice. I'll have to try some of the others.

I wonder if they have samples of all for sale?
