The Race is on ... who will get there first.

Let's talk whiskey.

The Race is on ... who will get there first.

Dingle Distillery have been hoping, going by their blog, that they will be the first new distillery to distill in Ireland since the "New"idleton site opened for business in the early 70's.

However ruminations from Carlow Brewing / Alltech seems like they are possibly closee to D (Distil) day.

Lets keep our ears to the ground and see who prevails

I think they would be lucky to aim for November 2013 never mind this month's imminent news ... :P

Half the articles on new Irish distilleries have some variation on this claim. Either they are the "first since..." or "Ireland's fourth distillery". They should stop guessing and find out because they are always wrong.

By the way, the Dingle Brewing Company also told me they intend to distil by the end of the year. So it might be a 3-way race.

Yes, it is hard to differ from the reality or just the hope of some of the statements.

Was in Dingle 3 weeks ago and visited both sites. Obviously the Dingle Distillery are well on track at this stage however The Dingle Brewing Company look a long way from distilling as they don't even have pot stills in yet. They do the have a space set aside for them though ;-). They are niftily going to transfer the current brew set up (wash backs etc) for the distilling operation. They have a much bigger brewing operation in an industrial estate so don't really require the brew facility in the old Creamery building any longer. Will have to keep a close eye on them.

I too was hoping to warm up the stills this year but there are a few issues to resolve first

Looking forward to new whiskeys and hopefully they will cause a domino effect in the industry. We could soon be hosting lots more tastings. It's all good new.

Dingle is all set to do their first official run on Thursday ... have not heard a dickie bird from AllTech/Carlow Brewing even though they had claimed that they were ready a couple weeks ago ??? I would of expected a press release if they had?
