Another Midleton Single Cask

Let's talk whiskey.

Another Midleton Single Cask

Postby Good Whiskey Hunting » Sun Aug 05, 2012 3:12 pm

I have just found some information about another Midleton single cask.
It was selected for the visit of An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny's visit to the distillery on May 25th.

This was an article about it but no mention of the cask

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/fin ... 32600.html

Here's the info so far as I know.

Cask 31431
Laid down June 1992
Warehouse M10 Bay 015.
46% non chilled filtered

How many different Single Casks have been issued in the last few years?

Is it on sale in midleton? or Smithfield?
Is it in the same style as CWS and T2?

It's not for general release.

It's a second fill Bourbon I think. The style would be similar to the CWS or T2 but would have characteristics of its own. I've tried a few single casks side by side and they all seem different but I'm no expert.

It's 20 years old and bottled at 46% so I guess there's 250 give or take out there. I can inquire when I get a chance but I bet someone here will have the information at hand.

Work away Adrian.

I think it was given to some staff and probably a politician or two for the visit. There may be more odd ones like it out there that we didn't know about either.

It was selected for Enda Kennys visit but I don't know much other that. I'll see if I can dig up more.

This seems to be a resale of one of the earlier Dublin Airport ones - that's some markup!

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-14004.aspx

Can't quite make out the cask number but it seems to be one of the first two ending in 09 and 10.

Wow big mark up......

My sister got me one last summer when she went to San Fran 200 euros but she had to bring it with her..... she was not allowed to leave it for collection on return.

Must tell her the price of the on on the whiskey exchange.

They're popping up all over the place now.

That's 5 from CWS, 3 from T2, 1 due from TWE, 2 from LMDW, the one I mentioned at the start of the tread and now Irisch Lifestyles.

And of course the Society Bottle.

Damn 5? I was told by a guy who worked there that there was only 4. I wouldn't have bothered getting the 3rd or 4th if i knew there was 5.

The latest single cask uncovered first spotted Christmas Eve

James Fox & Co have a 1st Fill Bourbon Oak Cask #40279 Batch: L229233327 12yo Dist: 29 Apr 1999 Bott: 18 Oct 2012 No: of bottles: 196 ABV: 46.0% €230

That brings the total known single casks to 17 (CWS x 5, DAA x 5, LMDW x 2, IWS x 1, TWE x 1, Taoiseach x 1, Foxes x 1, Irisch Lifestyle x1)

Time to do a seperate thread in the collectors corner with a full list.

Cheers TWB

Well done, keeping track of all that! And thank you for posting it.

It seems they have a solid and repeatable process for getting single casks out the door among the volume bottling. A good thing, I reckon, even if it means we can't possibly try everything.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that within three years we'll see a finished "single cask" (you know what I mean) whiskey done by IDL themselves. Clearly they like to showcase their bourbon-matured whiskey but the sherry, port, etc is a bit heavy to release on its own. (I know some of you won't agree with me there.) A finish would be the perfect way around that.

Two more Danish Single Casks????

Not much detail, look to be a bit pricey, would cost an arm and leg for an Irish person!

What a price :o 3650 is 489 Euro..........
I am not 100% sure, but believe it`s the SC from La Maison du Whisky. There are more shops that sell the LMDW SC outside off France.

That may be true but these appear to be different strengths, so are indeed likely to be two additional casks...and at an eye watering price of c. €950 for the pair...
