LET US SHARE SOME EXPERIENCE IN THIS COLD DAY´S.(temp. just now in my area -13)

Most known Hot Whiskey`s are with: Power`s/Paddy`s/Jameson/Tullamore Dew

1) what is your favorite :?:
2) what is your experience :?:

My impression
1) Power`s
2)Coleraine/Dunphys/Writers Tears/Bushmills white/Crested Ten

all are drinkable, but non is as good as with Power`s in my opinion.

I sold a lot of Kilbeggan Hot Whiskeys over the winter in the bar. I rimmed the glass with nutmeg, studded lemon with cloves, brown sugar and a cinnamon stick as a stirrer. Was a big hit, I think Kilbeggan handles dilution, be it hot or cold, very well. Infact when someone asks me for a whiskey I just give them Kilbeggan, we sell more of that than Jameson.

I totally agree with you about the Power's. I remember when i started in the bar, we used Tullamore Due. When I moved to my current job we always used Hewett's. People would ask for Powers all the time.
We only use Power's now and buy it by the gallon. Irish Distillers gave us a nice display unit for cloves etc.

I always felt Powers for the Irish Coffee and Paddy for the hot toddy but in all fairness any regular common Irish is fine.

Clove and Lemon is a must and studding the lemon with the clove is the way to go

Saves pulling cloves out of mouth every sip ;)

I'd always use powers, paddy or jameson for a hot whiskey, mainly powers, and like IWC etc. would use a clove studded lemon and sugar. I never felt the malt based blends (bushmills kilbeggan etc.) really worked. Maybe that just that they don't match the flavour I expect from a hot whiskey over the years which is more a relfection on the hot whiskeys I would have been reared on. (Not literally).

I think the best hot whiskey I've had was a Paddy in my uncles old farmhouse in front of a big log fire after a long walk in the Nire valley / Comeragh area. Sometimes the context is everything.

It drive me mad when I have cloves floating in mine.
I always use a lemon with a good fat rind and stud the cloves in it, i find that they will never come loose if you want to give it a good stir. Then add demerara sugar or honey if available.
