Malt Maniacs Awards

Drop of the Irish 14 is the top Irish this year, getting a "silver".

Kilbeggan 18 next, then Connemara Turf Mor.

Greenore 18 also got a bronze, which is impressive, as they're malt maniacs. And the Kilbeggan, of course.

Yes I would be very interested what they make of any of the SPS because the Malt Maniacs are very much Malt biased (imho of course ;-) )

I suppose they are "malt" maniacs. I wonder if any single pot still was entered.

True and they have been great exponents of Single Malt whisky but even so they have dabbled in the other stuff. However I find their attitude towards any else slightly elitist... Some views are just not balanced or objective enough in my mind.

I would agree, but some of them are very fair. Keith, Lawrence Graham, Ralphy and others. And the tasting for the awards is done blind.

Even Serge Valetin rated the new pot stills quite high, and he thinks the Irish are dedicated street drinkers.

I should not paint all with the one brush and I admire them as a group in one scene however the Awards are in my view no better structured than any other Awards. Virtually every whisky, if not all, got a medal which I find hard to relate to and at the end of the day they will only judge what has been submitted, which is a form of sponsorship. In essence it is a very limited snap shot of whisky yet a lot of credence is put on their Awards amongst the serious whisky drinking public as they are seen as independent. Unfortunately I don't see that. I'm certainly not questioning their integrity but I'm just a bit skeptical of the Awards and their relevance.

But then I'm a Skeptic in general anyway

Not all the whiskies won an award, Adrian. Seven didn't. Just seven. Again, I'm open to correction on this.
