Why is there a cork in the top of the bottle and on the table beside it? Apart from that, it's a great whiskey. A great whiskey.

How many bottles would you get out of 68 casks

It would depend on how many sherry barrels they used, but on average only 3% of midleton distilate is filled into sherry. So allow for 4 cask at 400 litres and the rest 200 litres you would have about 14,400 litres which 20,571 bottles before you factor in the angels share of 2% per annum they could have yielded about 17,000 bottles

I think the regular Redbreast 12 is 2/3rds sherry, 1/3 bourbon. Assuming they're not talking about puncheons etc.

A bourbon barrel holds around 200 litres, and a sherry butt holds around 500 litres, then the proportion of sherry butts to bourbon barrels would be 6:5...

So, that would make it 37 sherry butts to 31 bourbon barrels. Which would be 18,000 litres of sherry-matured whiskey to 6,200 litres of bourbon-matured whiskey - totalling 24,700 litres of whiskey. Then if 2% is lost per year... I presume that's compounded, so it would work out at 19,380 at the end of 12 years. That would work out at 27,685 bottles.

All of this could be wrong, however. It assumes the sherry butts used are 500 litres and the bourbon barrels 200 litres.

...there was a tasting with Barry Walsh a few years ago when he said, I think, Redbreast was one part first-fill sherry cask, one part second-fill sherry cask and one part bourbon... Can anyone confirm if I've remembered this correctly?

I got mine from Liam in Kilkenny recently.I think it was about €60 or so too.great value considering I was blind as a welder's dog drunk after a couple of glasses.I'm learning to respect it now.

Traditionally, the Irish Whiskey Society meets on the last Thursday of every month in Dublin. Maybe you can time your visit to coincide with that...
