Finnlaigh Irish Whiskey

Let's talk whiskey.

Finnlaigh Irish Whiskey

Postby dave-c » Fri Jun 10, 2011 12:14 pm

Just saw this on the shelves here in Aus today. Looks like a new entry level blend from Cooley Distillery for the Australian market.

Some links with more info:

Anyone heard of this? Are these localised brandings/independent releases generally any good?

Might have to pick up a bottle and check it out.

I'd imagine that this is an Australian or maybe even Austral-Asian release, May even be just a release for specific retailer? Probably a fairly bog standard, light, sweet-ish, drinkable blend by the looks of it.

If you pick up a bottle let us know what it says on the reverse label as it should say who it is bottled for or even imported by.

On a similar note I cam across St. Patrick Irish Whiskey in a shop in Moscow.

From Cooley apparently http://www.irish-whiskey.ru/whiskeymarks/st_patrick.html

Haven't tried it but the name and the packaging don't really sell it for me but maybe everyone in Russia knows about St. Patrick :?:

There was a bit of a battle between IDL and Cooley over this, even though Cooley didn't design the label. IDL thought it was too similar to Jameson...

Good to see a Finlay on the Finnlaigh thread...

I had a bottle of this. It was very disappointing. A very light whiskey with no particular taste. Could be used as a mixer in cocktails but if you want a whiskey dont bother with this!!

Yes, fairly bog standard Cooley . Really a case of 'Dan Murphy' chain saying we have an
Irish in our portfolio. My cousin brought me a bottle from Sydney for my collection. As I
recall the label was well designed but he didn't have a good opinion on the contents. It
is exclusive to the Australian market as I understand.
